Bellevue Police are investigating a 17-year-old Newport High School student after tracking an IP address to an e-mail account allegedly used to send a threatening letter to the Bellevue School District back in December.

The school district employee notified police about receiving a letter on Dec. 10 they considered threatening, according to an affidavit for search warrant filed Monday, March 10 in King County Superior Court.

Police were granted permission on Feb. 18 to search the student’s residence, including the seizure and forensic analysis of all electronic devices with Internet connectivity within the household.

This investigation is being treated as a cyberstalking case, according to the affidavit. Police and school district policy is not to comment on active investigations or issues involving students.
