Bellevue Police say an Apple Store employee at Bellevue Square did the right thing by contacting law enforcement after a man came in and left a suspicious package on the counter addressed to Apple CEO Tim Cook, which turned out to be a harmless glass chalice.
Bellevue Police Officer Seth Tyler said a man came into the Apple Store on July 9 and told a clerk he had a package for Cook, which the employee said the store wouldn’t accept. The man placed the package on the counter and left. A bomb technician later responded, but Tyler said the circumstances and condition of the package didn’t raise any red flags.
“It didn’t raise our suspicions enough to leave it (the package) as is and evacuate,” he said. “(The bomb technician) actually picked it up and walked it outside of the mall and X-rayed it.”
The package was later opened, revealing a glass chalice with a gift tag made out to former President Bill Clinton.
“It was definitely unusual,” Tyler said of the incident. “We just wish the individual who left it would have at least provided some more information.”
