Police patrolling land, water for Seafair

The largest Impaired Operator emphasis on land or water in the state is under way this weekend and will focus on activities on Lake Washington today and Sunday.

The largest Impaired Operator emphasis on land or water in the state is under way this weekend and will focus on activities on Lake Washington today and Sunday.

Organized by the Washington State Patrol’s Impaired Driving Section, the patrol includes the Mercer Island Police & Marine Patrol, Washington Department of Fisheries and Wildlife and the Washington State Patrol.

This year’s event will be located at Proctor Landing on Mercer Island. To accommodate the Marine Patrol Units, a temporary 80-foot dock will be located at the site. In addition to the Mobile Impaired Driving Unit equipped with four breathalyzer machines, a command vehicle equipped with mobile communications will be on site to coordinate with the various law enforcement jurisdictions participating in the emphasis.

Additional DUI patrols will be scheduled throughout the weekend. They will focus their efforts on the roadways leading to and from the event. In addition there will be drug recognition experts available for drug impairment evaluations.
