Richard Arthur Welton of Bellevue died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 at home. He was 93.
Mr. Welton was born Nov. 16, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio to Rollo and Carrie Welton. He was raised in Fife. During the early part of 1935, he enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1942, was called to active duty with The United States Army. In June 1944, he landed on Utah Beach on the coast of France. Mr. Welton returned to the United States and was discharged in September 1945, having earned a Bronze Star.
In 1946, he married Betty Louise Riley. They resided in Fircrest, Wash. In 1958 they settled in Bellevue. In addition to traveling, Mr. Welton enjoyed fishing, reading and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Dale (Dianne) Welton of Gig Harbor, Janie Field of Kirkland, Marilyn (Joe) Favre of Sammamish and Linda (Preston) Peightal of Cameno Island; sister, Peggy Zurfluh of Eatonville; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
