Crews will be blasting rock from the slopes above Interstate 90 east of Snoqualmie Pass only two days this week.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and contractor crews will close I-90 in both directions from Gold Creek (milepost 56) to the Price Creek Sno Park (milepost 61) on Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. each day.

Rock blasting is part of the $551 million I-90 Snoqualmie Pass East – Hyak to Keechelus Dam project to widen a five-mile stretch of the highway from four to six lanes and improve reliability and safety. The project is scheduled to be complete in 2017.

Drivers will also need to plan for the following traffic impacts on I-90 from milepost 55 to 58:

On Monday through Friday, crews will be conducting rolling slowdowns during the day in the eastbound and westbound lanes to allow construction equipment to enter and leave the project.

On Monday night, from 8 p.m., through Friday morning at 9 a.m., westbound traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction.

From now through Thursday at 11 a.m. and from Thursday night from 8 p.m. through Friday morning at 9 a.m., the eastbound lanes of I-90 will be restricted to one lane.

Drivers may also experience minor delays associated with single lane closures on I-90 from milepost 62 to 68 on Monday at 7 p.m. through Friday at 9 a.m.
