With salmon expected to return to the Bellevue streams where they were born soon, the city of Bellevue is looking for volunteers to watch for them and record their findings.

Each fall salmon make their journey from the ocean back to local streams to spawn. Observations made by volunteers are important for salmon recovery efforts. The data tells staff how salmon are using Bellevue’s streams, identifies possible fish passage barriers and helps target professional salmon recovery work.

No experience is necessary, but volunteers should register, attend one training session and observe a site for 15 minutes twice a week during the fall spawning season – September through December – then record the data and mail the numbers in.
