The Bellevue School Board has voted unanimously to offer a three year contract to Dr. Justin (Tim) Mills, current superintendent of the North Clackamas School District in Oregon, in a vote that took place following a special meeting on Tuesday night. The decision comes in the wake of the finalist interviews that took place last week.
While Board President Paul Mills said that all three candidates were strong, Dr. Mills stood out for his experience and understanding of diverse communities and English language learners.
“We felt strongly, and heard loud and clear from the community, that we needed someone who can not only understand our diverse and evolving student and parent population but help all families thrive in our education system – not just those who speak English.“
Prior to his role in Oregon, Mills was superintendent in the Mesa Valley County and Brush Public School Districts—both in Colorado. He served as a middle school principal and assistant principal in Mesa Valley County and began his career as a teacher in Colorado and Arizona.
Although Dr. Mills was not present at Tuesday’s vote, he was contacted via phone after the meeting adjourned. The Board will be working with Mills over the next several days to prepare an employment contract. Interim Superintendent Eva Collins will remain in her role until Dr. Mills arrives and return to her position as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.
