Sheep shearing event returns to Kelsey Creek Farm on April 26

Kelsey Creek Farm’s annual sheep shearing event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday April 26, featuring a variety of farm events, including spinning demonstrations, inflatables, 4-H exhibits, kid’s crafts, tractor rides, pony rides, food and more.

Free activities include sheep shearing demonstration, sheep herding by Brian Ricards, fiber craft demonstrations by the NWRSA Spinners, hands on activities by the Eastside Heritage Center, a tractor-pulled hay rides by NW Vintage Tractor Club and 4-H & Kelsey Creek Farm animal exhibits

Activities with nominal fees include pony rides, inflatables and activities, and local honey, food and drinks.

Admission is free, but the costs vary for some activities ($1-$3). Food is also available for purchase. No ATM is available on-site and pets not allowed in barnyard area.

The shearing of the sheep is a traditional farm practice to gather wool for a variety of textiles. Each sheep produces from six to 10 pounds of wool each year. Called “Wild’n’Woolly” for a few years, the sheep shearing event originated in the early ’90s as crowds came each spring to watch the sheep being shorn of their winter coats kept growing.

Shuttle service will be provided to and from the farm beginning at 10:45 a.m. and running throughout the day, approximately every 20 minutes. The last shuttle service will leave the farm at 4:30 p.m.

  • Bannerwood Sports Park, 1630 132nd Ave. S.E. From I-405, take the Southeast Eighth Street exit east. Turn right onto Lake Hills Connector. At the “Y” intersection, keep right, turning onto Richards Road. Turn left at the Bannerwood Park sign shortly thereafter.
  • Wilburton Park & Ride, 720 114th Ave. S.E.
