Dr. Elaine Chan will answer financial questions related to Social Security at the Aug. 8 meeting of the Women Embracing Change breakfast.

The meeting is set from 7:30-9 a.m. at the Bellevue Harbor Club, 777 108th Avenue NE, Suite 2500.

The Social Security talk is open to the public. The $25 fee includes the presentation, a full breakfast, informal networking and free parking.

Chan is a financial advisor for the Global Private Client Group of Merrill Lynch in Bellevue. She will discuss such topics as: Should middle-aged women plan on Social Security being around when they retire?

How does Social Security work? When should you start commencing benefits? What are some of the strategies that will maximize benefits? How is Social Security affected by divorce?

Chan has a Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University, and was an economist for the World Bank in Washington, D.C. for several years.
