Over the course of the past three months, Sound Transit’s contractor has been installing tunnel monitoring equipment along the downtown Bellevue tunnel alignment. Once tunnel excavation begins later this year, the equipment will monitor tunnel excavation activities as they occur. During the next approximately three weeks, lane closures will be required on 110th Avenue NE near NE 4th Street as installation work continues.
What to expect:
Crews will install various types of monitoring equipment. You may observe the following as this work occurs:
- Hours: Work will occur during day time hours.
- Drilling activities: Drilling and vacuuming is required as part of the equipment installation. Drilling will sound similar to a truck running with occasional hammering sounds. The vacuuming will make noise while soil material is being removed.
- Traffic control and sequencing: A northbound lane will be closed as crews install the equipment on 110th Avenue NE near NE 4th Street. Following completion of work in the northbound lane, crews will move to the west side of the street, currently anticipated to start as early as Oct. 10. This portion of the work will require a closure of the southbound right hand turn lane and the southbound lanes adjacent to it along 110th Avenue NE, just north of NE 4th Street. The remaining southbound lane will be a right, left and straight ahead lane. The Skyline Tower and City Center garage entrance/exits will be functional during this work.
- Equipment: Drill rig, truck, traffic signage and cones, and vacuum truck.
