Elder and Adult Day Services (EADS) will hold a fundraising luncheon in February to benefit people who need scholarships in order to attend EADS.
The event will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4 at the Golf Club at Newcastle.
Art Thiel, sports columnist for www.seattlepi.com, will be the keynote speaker.
EADS is a nonprofit organization which provides relief to caregivers by offering day health programs focused on frail seniors and adults with developmental disabilities. In 2008, EADS served 367 program participants.
Thiel grew up in Tacoma and his mother, Mary, was diagnosed with probable Alzheimer’s. For five years, his father, Bob, was Mary’s primary caregiver until he died. As an only child, Art coped for six years with managing her care while traveling frequently for his job.
After she died, Art became a member of the board of directors for the Alzheimer’s Association of Western and Central Washington on which he served for six years.
There is no “charge” to attend the event, however, everyone will be given the opportunity to make a donation. A minimum gift of $100 per person would be appreciated, organizers say.
