St. Thomas School in Medina to be honored as a Washington Green School for work led by students in reducing waste and maximizing appropriate recycling. The school was given a special flag in a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of St. Thomas Church.
Public recognition of this achievement will be highlighted when Jennifer Kauffman, Conservation and Outreach Program Administrator for the city of Bellevue, will present a special flag signifying that St. Thomas School is a Washington Green School.
In other green news at the school, the U.S. Green Building Council has certified the school’s newly constructed building and campus as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold for Schools. St. Thomas School is the first school to achieve Gold level accreditation under the LEED for Schools program in Washington and second in the nation.
