UPDATE: 1:00 p.m. | Marinepolis Sushi Land has been cleared to reopen by the King County Health department after being closed since Thursday.

Original story is below

County officials temporarily closed a downtown Bellevue sushi restaurant Thursday following multiple cases of salmonella and a number of health code violations.

Marinepolis Sushi Land has been closed since 4 p.m. Thursday after King County Health connected two cases of salmonella earlier this summer back to the restaurant, said James Apa, spokesman for King County Health.

It remains unclear how long the restaurant will stay closed. Apa said the health department is now investigating the incidents, trying to find the cause of the illness.

Representatives from Marinepolis did not return phone calls requesting comment.

Neither of the two people who contracted salmonella earlier this summer were hospitalized, and they have recovered, Apa said.

Any time a closure occurs, the restaurant pays an $810 fee for re-inspection. Failure to institute changes can lead to fines, longer term closures and shutdowns.
