Diane Tebelius, the opponent of Democratic incumbent Rep. Ross Hunter, conceded the race Monday evening.
As of 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, Hunter had a 2,500 vote lead over Tebelius with more than 38,000 votes counted (53.21 percent to 46.79).
A statement sent to the Reporter is below.
“Today I called state Representative Ross Hunter to congratulate him on his re-election.
Over the past few months we have had a vigorous debate over the future of our great state. Washington’s fiscal health must be restored by growing jobs in the private sector and not growing government.
The message of fiscal accountability will continue to be vital as the Legislature begins to deal with a $5 billion deficit in January. It is my hope that the people’s voice will win out over special interests and that there will be strong leadership to reset government and to determine the priorities in this state.
I plan to do what I can to see this great state continue as a leader in business innovation and to preserve the quality of life that we all cherish. This is a cause worth fighting for, and I hope you will join me in the 48th District as we find ways to continue investing in our neighborhoods and communities.
Many of you gave countless hours to this campaign effort, and I am deeply grateful for all that you contributed in time, talents, and treasure. We need to feel very proud of the effort that was launched a mere five months ago. I know I am, and it would not have happened without your support.”
