Every little girl dreams of being a princess one day. For 17-year-old Brittany Mohn, that fairy tale came true.
Brittany was whisked away to Bellevue for two days of pampering in true royal fashion courtesy of the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.
For the past year, Brittany has spent her days undergoing treatment at Seattle Children’s Hospital for Cystic Fibrosis with severe complications. The intense treatment program has made it nearly impossible for Brittany to step outside the walls of the hospital. She was given the opportunity to have a wish granted, whether it was to meet a famous celebrity, visit a tropical paradise or attend a lavish event.
“I considered meeting a glamorous celebrity like Reese Witherspoon or Hayden Panettiere, but then I thought of something better,” Brittany explained.
Instead, Brittany decided she wanted to become a celebrity for a day. She chose to share her special day with her mother who resides in Montana, but travels to stay with Brittany at Children’s on a regular basis.
“Brittany has waited so long to get outside of the hospital and see the sky,” said Brittany’s mother Michelle Mohn. “To see how happy she is to have the sun shining on her face makes me smile.”
A stretch limo arrived early Sunday morning to pick Brittany and her mother up from Children’s. The limo was led by a private Bellevue Police motorcade from Seattle to their destination at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Bellevue.
“The hotel room is amazing,” Brittany gushed. “You can see all of Bellevue and they had an iPod with music going when I arrived and I’m going to order room service tomorrow. It’s just really cool.”
Once situated in the exclusive Kemper Suite at the Hyatt, Brittany and her mother were off to explore downtown Bellevue and soak of a day of shopping, pampering, and delicious eats. Tom Byrne, Thera Martin and Jessie Elenboas, volunteers from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, coordinated the two-day event and accompanied the two ladies on their princess weekend.
The crew began the day at Nordstrom. Brittany was met by a personal shopper who helped her hand pick a head-to-toe outfit including accessories and shoes.
Like a true fashionista, Brittany selected a pair of Seven for Mankind Jeans, killer brown boots, and a stylish Juicy Couture purse. Decked out in Bellevue’s finest, Brittany and her mother indulged in the popular Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant located in Lincoln Square. A chef catered to the mother and daughter pair, serving generous portions of appetizers, entrees and dessert.
As the day rolled on, Brittany got the true royal treatment at Obadiah Salon in Bellevue Place, where salon owner Michelle Kleppe consulted with Brittany before giving her a color, cut and style. Brittany took a bold step, and cut off 11 inches of her long hair to donate to Locks of Love for cancer patients.
“My hair has been growing for so long and I knew I wanted to cut it so I decided to donate the hair instead of letting it go to waste,” a very brave Brittany said. “I thought maybe someone else could use it more than I could.”
Makeup artist Chrissy Sweeney completed the transformation for both Brittany and her mother, sending Brittany off with a goody bag full of makeup and hair products.
The next stop on the fairy-tale journey was every girl’s fantasy. Brittany was surprised with a private VIP tour of Tiffany’s & CO. The large glass doors to the famous jewelry store swung open and men in black tuxes and crisp white gloves invited a brightly smiling Brittany inside for a Cinderella moment.
“This experience has been everything I ever dreamed of and much more,” Brittany said.
The night was capped off with a private dining experience at Daniels Broiler and a stay at the Hyatt suit overlooking the skylines of Bellevue and Seattle.
Unlike Cinderella, Brittany’s fairy tale was not over when the clock struck midnight.
The following day, Brittany and her mother were treated to a day of spa treatments at Gene Juarez Salon and Spa including facials, manicures and pedicures.
Pampered, beautified and exhausted, the mother and daughter were whisked away once again by a limo and police motorcade.
“We caused a little bit of a traffic jam in the limo because people probably thought there was a celebrity or something inside,” joked Brittany. “This has just been the best experience ever.”
