Jesse Warren and his family arrived in Bellevue in 1890. Prior to moving to Bellevue, they had lived in Walsh County, Dakota Territory.
The Warrens purchased a plot of land and established a farm at the site of present day Bellevue Square. The Warren farm was very bountiful and they grew a variety of crops, including strawberries. The family lived in a white house that stood on the corner of 108th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Eighth Street.
The Warrens joined the Washington Produce and Fruit Growers Union so that they could sell their produce in Seattle at the Pike Place Market. Jesse Warren was one of the first directors of the Bellevue School Board.
Bellevue’s first cemetery, the Pioneer Cemetery, was located on the site of the Warren family’s private cemetery.
