Eight-year-old Nico Broussalian of Newport Heights Elementary School in Bellevue and his younger brother, Max, spent their Martin Luther King JR. weekend giving back.

Along with the rest of their family and more than 70 volunteers, the two brothers lent a helping hand through the organization Earth Corps. They spent four hours clearing ivy at Dearborn Park in Seattle.

Nico was first inspired to volunteer his time after he saw Disney’s “Give a Day, Get a Day” campaign on TV. The program offers a 1-day, 1-theme park ticket to the Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort free of charge in return for a day of service.

Nico told his little brother about the challenge and got his parents involved. They signed up, and used their time to not only give back to the community, but to provide Service for MLK weekend.

“It was the best day ever,” said six-year-old Max. “I want to challenge and inspire every Bellevue school student to do the same.”

Nico was proud to serve, but also to save his entire family some money, as they each earned a free ticket to Disney World.

“If a 6-year-old and an 8-year-old can do it, anyone can. It’s important to help people where they live,” Nico said.
