Cascade Water Alliance and the city of Bellevue are sending Toilet Leak Detection mailers to nearly 100,000 homes in Cascade’s service area throughout the Eastside and South King County.
The average American home may waste more than 10,000 gallons of water every year due to leaks. One of the most common type, a leaking toilet, can waste up to 200 gallons of water a day.
In 2009 and 2010 Bellevue residents saved about 40,000 gallons per day by fixing leaking toilets.
The leak detection mailers include dye strips and simple instructions to check the toilet for leaks. Information on detecting a leaking toilet and other conservation programs can be found at www.cascadewater.org.
