Two schools in the Bellevue School District have been honored with a 2012 “School of Distinction” Award, both of them for the second year in a row.  Enatai Elementary and Spiritridge Elementary have been recognized for their outstanding improvement in student achievement in both reading and math.

The School of Distinction award recipients are the highest improving schools in the state, representing the top five percent of improvement of all schools at their grade level.  Award winners must show sustained improvement in reading and math over the last five years.  Students at the winning schools must perform at or above the state median for their grade level.  This year’s assessment included scores from the Measure of Student Progress (MSP) for grades 3-8.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work and efforts that my staff and parent community puts into every student every single day,” says Enatai Elementary School Principal Dr. Audrey Meyers.  “Their commitment to ensuring that each student achieves is unwavering.  Through our Professional Learning Community collaboration and implementation of the Response to Intervention model, we have been able to meet every child where they are and push them to where they need to be.”

The 2012 School of Distinction award is presented by The Center for Educational Effectiveness, the Association of Educational Service Districts, the Association of Washington School Principals, Phi Delta Kappa-Washington Chapter, Washington Association of School Administrators, Washington State ASCD and Washington State School Directors’ Association.

The 2012 School of Distinction award winners will be recognized at an upcoming award ceremony hosted by the Puget Sound Educational Service District.
