Seattle Opera presents American classic, “Porgy and Bess” July 30-Aug. 20. The opera explores the ennobling romance between a beggar and a battered woman in Charleston, South Carolina, in the early 20th century. “Ruddigore,” or “The Witch’s Curse, a Melodramatic Ghost Story” runs July 15-30 at Bagley Wright Theatre (155 Mercer St. Seattle, WA, 98109. This show spoofs the popular melodramas of the late 1800s featuring some of Sullivan’s best and most singable music; Gilbert’s clever plot line and lyrics; and a stage full of unforgettable characters.
