‘World’s Greatest Athlete’ comes to Bellevue on Father’s Day

Athletes can often make headlines for the wrong reasons. Not Bryan Clay. Earning the title “World’s Greatest Athlete” at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games was a remarkable accomplishment, but he hopes he is most remembered for his success as a husband and father.

Champions Centre hosts Clay – a champion in his own right – during Father’s Day services at its Bellevue campus.

Clay will share his personal story as a troubled teen who found his way back on track through his success in sports and his belief and acceptance of the Christian faith. Clay will appear in Bellevue on Sunday, June 21 at 10 a.m.

As a child of divorce, Clay was raised by his mother who suffered from bipolar disorder. His childhood could be described as an emotional roller coaster. At 12, he was headed down a troubled path of self-injury and destructive self-criticism.

His involvement in sports, spurred by his mother’s urging, turned his life around. Today, he attributes his champion personality to his experience of being raised in a broken home – because it made him want to fight and win.

Today, his top priorities are God, family and track and field.
