David H. Jacobs, Jr.
David H. Jacobs, Jr. passed away peacefully in his Bellevue home November 8, 2009, with his family at his side. He was born April 10, 1951, in Newport, Rhode Island. At one year of age, he moved to San Diego, California. During his childhood, he was groomed to be a concert pianist, played baseball, football, surfed, scuba dove and enjoyed 4 wheeling. Following his father’s steps, he pursued a career in Fire Science. He served in California Fire Departments before beginning his 26 year career with the Seattle Fire Department, achieving the rank of Battalion Chief. He was highly respected for his leadership and common sense. He was elected by his peers as Chief of the Year for 2005. Additionally, Dave was an accomplished writer. He published 22 books, ranging from home remodeling to auto detailing. His accomplishments were many; including raising, supporting, and mentoring his combined family of 13 children. He married his soulmate, Janna, in 1989. Together they enjoyed vacationing in Maui, boating and beachcombing on the Hood Canal, and barbecuing with family and friends at Mercerwood Shore Club.Dave leaves behind a legacy filled with wisdom, truth, integrity, sacrifice and most importantly his love for Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife, Janna; his mother, Grace Boardman; his brother, Steve; his sons, Joseph, Adam, Matthew, Luke, and Nick; his daughters, Shannon, Michele, Terri, Kirsten, Courtney, Brittany, Ashleigh, and Bethany; and 17+ grandchildren. The David H. Jacobs Foundation has been established to honor Dave’s 30 year public service career that culminated in his line of duty death. He was cared for lovingly by hospice at home with his family. The purpose of the foundation is to provide funding and support for other firefighter and police families who face a similar need for end of life care-giving situations.
