Frederick S. Barkman

Frederick S. Barkman of Bellevue, WA, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died of cancer peacefully on September 27, 2009 at home, surrounded by family.He was born July 29, 1930, in Minneapolis, MN, where he grew up and graduated from the University of Minnesota Business and Law schools. He served in the U.S. Navy between 1956-1958. In 1962, Fred moved his family to Seattle, WA, Portland, OR, and eventually Bellevue, WA to start a long career in construction finance and mortgage banking, and later, home construction.He loved his family and friends, his cabin in MN, the ocean seashore, long drives and playing with his grandchildren. Fred is survived by his wife of 48 years, Meta, his four children: Frederick Barkman Jr. (Gwyn); Rebecca Koch (Bob), Martha Barkman and Sarah “Sally” Morris (Tom); his six grandchildren; and three sisters: Frances Martinson, Elizabeth Johnson, and Florence Arbaugh residing in MN and MI.A memorial service celebrating Fred’s life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1934 108th Ave. NE, Bellevue, WA, 98004 on October 17th at two o’clock in the afternoon. Private interment at Sunset Hills Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions go to the Endowment Fund at Bellevue First UMC (above) or Evergreen Hospice at 10240 NE 28th St. #MS5, Kirkland, WA 98034.
