Jane E. Hemingson
Jane E. Hemingson passed away peacefully on April 26, 2009. She was born on June 10, 1917, in Cashmere, Washington to parents Carl and Elsa Edgerly. Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Ernest Hemingson. Jane is survived by her two children Rob Hemingson (Molly) and Jill [Hemingson] Northcraft (Mark), four grandchildren Ryan (Eileen) and Kevin (Gena) Harasimowicz, and Megan and Amy Hemingson, great granddaughter Catherine Harasimowicz, and five nieces. Jane grew up in North Bend, Washington. She earned her BA degree in 1939 from the University of Washington and is a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She later returned to the University of Washington to earn her master’s degree in librarianship. Jane began her teaching career in Montesano, Washington, where she met her husband. In 1943, she and Ernest moved to Bellevue and became valuable members of the growing community. Jane taught in the Lake Washington School District where she retired from teaching in 1974 after many fulfilling years as the librarian at Lake Washington High School. Jane later sold real estate on the Eastside from 1980 to 1994. Jane and Ernest were founding members of Grace Lutheran Church in Bellevue, Washington. Carrying on her love of education, she volunteered in the church library for many years and then also as an ESL tutor through Hopelink in Bellevue. Jane will be remembered for her devotion to family, kindness and desire to always make someone’s life happier. She will live on in our hearts and family forever.
