Larry L. Dykes

Larry L. Dykes died at home on August 12, 2009. Larry was born in Nampa, Idaho in 1946 to Leo (deceased) and Lucille. Larry grew up in Tacoma. He received his Bachelor’s of Science in nuclear physics from the University of Washington and received a M.B.A. in Management from the University of Puget Sound, graduating first in his class. He also earned an LL.B., the former degree designation for law. Larry served as a U.S. Navy Lieutenant in Vietnam for which he earned multiple combat decorations. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Larry embarked on a long, successful career in personnel consulting. Larry owned Personnel Consultants, a recruiting ÿ rm for insurance and financial professionals. He captured his years of experience in the book he wrote entitled, “Careers By Chance or Choice.” Larry did a stint as a reporter and co-host on a syndicated radio talk show. His hobbies and passions included restoring antique cars, archaeology, traveling and rooting for Husky football. Larry was a member of the University of Tel Aviv Lachish Archaeology Expedition. The expedition unearthed the 3,500-year-old city of Lachish in the Negev desert. Larry’s greatest joy was his family and animals. Larry married Judith K. Duvall on June 15, 1968. Larry and Judi raised their two children, Marijka Snider and Trent Dykes, in Bellevue. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather to his three grandchildren Austin, Ashlee and E. He will especially be remembered for his ability to tell a story, to strike up a conversation with anyone he met, for his dedication to his family and for relentlessly pursuing his passions. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. The memorial service will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery at 18600 Southeast 240th Street, Kent, WA 98042.
