Merrill Dale Latimer
1930 – 2009
Merrill Dale Latimer (Dale) was born 3 September 1930, in Salt Lake City to Lois Hannah Walton and Lawrence Kendall Latimer. He was the third of four children. His elder sister, Lois Olson and his parents preceded him. He is survived by his wife, Dollie, with whom he lived in Medina, Washington, sister, Madeline of Salt Lake City, and brother Richard (Sallie) of Rhode Island. He has seven children, Kami (Brent) Jacobsen, Torri McEntire, Darcy (Mark) Sefcik, Bernard (Gina) Mater, Lisa (Mike) Olsen, Matt (Pam) Latimer, and Michelle Mathews. He had eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandson.He grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High in 1947. After being in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, he returned to finish his Aeronautical Engineering degree at the University of Utah. He loved to tease his children and grandchildren who attended BYU, when the two teams played against one another. He worked as an Engineer for Boeing and retired after 27 years.Dale was an example of Christ in all he did and said. He will be sorely missed. His sudden death on 15 May 2009, occurred while in Salt Lake for the wedding of a grand-niece. He was surrounded by his family and friends while leaving this life to return to his Heavenly Father.Funeral services were Tuesday, 19 May at the Bonneville Second Ward, Salt Lake City, Utah. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, 30 May in the Bellevue First Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bellevue, Washington, at 11 a.m. Because of Dale’s great love of learning, donations can be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Perpetual Education Fund Check lds.org.
