Nancy Rickey Umbreit, 82, passed away on February 28, 2019, in Seattle, Washington, joining two of her four children, Philip and Andrea. Nancy was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 27, 1936, to Lloyd and Dell Rickey. She is survived by her son Peter Umbreit, her daughter Allison Geisel, son-in-law Keith Geisel, daughter-in-law Julia Sanford, her five grandchildren: George, Claire and Emma Hoffmann, George and Charles Sanford, and her two nephews, Rickey and Milton Bevington.
Nancy attended Vassar College and the University of Colorado, where she met and married George Umbreit. They had four children, and a life filled with travel and adventure, which included carting four young children to live in Geneva, Switzerland, and then Paris, France, and then traveling throughout Europe, to eventually settle down in Seattle, Washington, where Nancy remained until her passing.
Although Nancy and George divorced many years ago, they remained close friends until George passed in 1996. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and she is missed. She was a fierce, independent and determined fighter until the very end of her life. She had many losses throughout her life but remained strong for her surviving children and grandchildren.
There will be a small memorial with family and friends on November 6, 2019, at 11AM, in Winter Park, Florida, at the Palm Cemetery where she will be interred with her sister Betsy, and her mother and father.
