Peggy Clapp Whitmire

Peggy Clapp Whitmire, 80, of Sequim, WA, died June 8, 2010 of lymphoma at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, WA. Her life began July 30, 1929 in Greenville, SC as a product of the union between George Washington Clapp, Sr and Eula Elizabeth Rainey. She had two older brothers: George Washington Clapp, Jr and Ellis Russell Clapp. A commercial artist and bookkeeper for several years, Peggy married Don Carlos Whitmire January 25, 1959 at White Oak Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. Her career evolved to focus on bookkeeping and accounting, and in 1965 she gave birth to a daughter, Elizabeth Kay. During her retirement beginning in the late 1980’s, Mrs. Whitmire created numerous pastel paintings, took care of her garden, practiced photography, practiced the piano on her electronic keyboard, enjoyed classical music, and followed progressive political issues. Places of residence included Bellevue, WA; Redmond, WA; Mukilteo, WA, Sequim, WA; and several locations in the southeastern United States. Always a devout Christian, her philosophy was aligned with the American Baptist Church. Mrs. Whitmire is survived by husband Don Whitmire of Sequim, WA; daughter Elizabeth Whitmire of Sequim, WA; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law in South Carolina; one nephew and three nieces.Cremation was done by Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, located in Port Angeles, WA.
