Vicenta Soule Sparling
June 27, 1917 – April 10, 2010
Vicenta (Centa) Sparling was raised in Hoquiam, Washington, by her parents, Thomas and Nora Soule. She lived an interesting life there, which included a world cruise with her sister and aunt when she was 20 years old. She graduated from Oregon State in 1940.With her husband, Charles A. Sparling, Centa played an integral part in the early growth of Bellevue, where they moved in 1946. The couple raised four children in the Medina community, and were active members of Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club, Overlake Golf and Country Club and St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Centa was also an enthusiastic member of the Lake Washington Garden Club and The Sunset Club in Seattle. In the 1950’s, Chuck and Centa discovered cruising and a love for the waters of Washington State as well as the magic of Desolation Sound, B. C. Later, in the 1960’s, they began traveling to Mexico and eventually established a winter home in Sayulita, Nayarit. Both places continue to feel like home to many of her family. She will be remembered for her beautiful blue eyes, her laugh, homemade bread, gardening, wine making and great story telling. We will miss her. She is survived by her four children: Presha Sparling (Keith Beckley), Ann (Jim) White, Galen (Clarke) Astle, Cap Sparling, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many wonderful friends. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Planned Parenthood or the charity of your choice.
