William S. Plowman
1928 – 2009
William S. (Bill) Plowman, 80, died November 12, 2009. He was born November 25, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Dr. Carl and Esther Plowman. Bill married Reta June Hardten on Aug. 19, 1951, in Claflin, Kansas. He received his draft notice on his wedding day.Following his service in the Korean War, he returned to the University of Kansas, graduating with a B.S. in Architecture. Bill worked in the aerospace industry in Dallas, TX, Wichita, KS, Renton and Everett – the last 31 years as a Mechanical Engineer at the Boeing Co., retiring in 1991.Bill was an involved parent and an active volunteer in Boy Scouts, school, church and the community. His workshop was always busy with new projects whether it was welding a bike, making a Pinewood Derby track, or designing and constructing a gold-leafed cross for the church. He also enjoyed playing bridge or traveling with his wife Reta, who passed away in 2001, or in his later years, keeping in touch with Boeing colleagues.Bill is survived by his three children, David Plowman (Wendi), Sammamish, WA, Ronna Bell (Greg), Eatonville, WA, and Greg Plowman (Tracy), San Carlos, CA; six Grandchildren, Brian Plowman, Jennifer and Jessica Plowman, Graham and Reilley Bell, and Max Plowman; brother Richard Plowman, AZ.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 28 at 2:00 pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Bellevue.
