Thumbs up for the Ebony Fashion Fair Exhibit in Bellevue | Letter

It was good news when the awe-inspiring Bellevue Arts Museum revealed that the "Inspiring Beauty: 50 years of Ebony Fashion Fair" exhibit arrived in May.

It was good news when the awe-inspiring Bellevue Arts Museum revealed that the “Inspiring Beauty: 50 years of Ebony Fashion Fair” exhibit arrived in May.

I promised myself I would venture over to see this exhibit that showcases the beauty, style, tenacity and empowerment of the African-American experience and achievements. When I visited the exhibit with my mother, I was not disappointed viewing the creative fashions and reading the admirable stories of how Ebony Fashion Fair came to be.

It’s still greatly important and relevant that we continue to express the message that black is beautiful and African Americans’ courage and creativity still shapes the American landscape. I encourage individuals from all walks of life to appreciate this must-see exhibit that will leave your curiosity inspired and perhaps allow you to see fashion from a persevering perspective (the exhibit ends Aug. 14).

Thank you to the museum for hosting an exhibit that celebrates diversity and gives a voice to the African-American experience by way of fashion with finesse and experimentation.
