Down to the NBA Relocation Committee that voted unanimously against moving the Sacramento Kings to Seattle. Apparently committed owners, ample financing and a solid plan for a beautiful arena aren’t enough to once tell this area that we aren’t worth the bother. Back at you.
Down to the anarchists – criminals, really – who once again “celebrated” May Day in Seattle with riots and destruction, injuring eight policemen in the process. Reports say that 17 have been arrested and police will be looking at video to try to identify other law-breakers. Let’s hope that images from surveillance cameras find many more.
Up to Bellevue Police motorcycle officer Seth Tyler whose sharp eyes and quick thinking resulted in the arrest of four burglary suspects in two days in different Bellevue neighborhoods. A story on page one outlines the details. It confirms the fact that Bellevue has a top police force staffed with quality people.
Up to Bellevue officials whose savvy financial ability has garnered the city – and its taxpayers – a top bond rating from two national services. The AAA rating from Standard and Poor’s and Aaa from Moody’s last week will save us thousands of dollars in any bonds the city sells to finance major capital projects.
Up for Mike Ryan, the long-time chaplain for the Bellevue Police and Fire departments, whose quick thinking and CPR training helped a man who collapsed at a restaurant where he was dining. As Ryan noted, “You don’t really think about what to do, you just act.” We all can – and should – be prepared by taking the classes. Fortunately, classes are offered through the Bellevue Fire Department by calling 425-452-6885 for individual lessons and 425-452-7673 for group training. There’s more information at www.ci.bellevue.wa.us/cpr_training.htm.
