What we need to hear from the president in his State of the Union address

Now that the campaigning and election are over, this is what we, the American people, want to hear President Obama say in his State of the Union address, and see reflected in his actions.

Now that the campaigning and election are over, this is what we, the American people, want to hear President Obama say in his State of the Union address, and see reflected in his actions.

• Tonight, I want to set the tone for the next four years for our great nation.

• Our starting point is now – no pointing back, nor blaming the past, nor second guessing the decisions that were made.

• I asked for this job and I assume responsibility for the hand I was dealt the last four years.

• Working together is a must for all of us in the Legislative and Executive branches of our government.

• We all have our beliefs and ideas of what is right for our country. It is these different ideas that bring out the best solutions.

• Together we stand, divided we fall. We need to resolve that we will stand together.

• If we dig in our heals, none of us will get what we want, nor achieve the  need for our country to be strong and succeed as a leader of the free world. Good discussion is healthy, effective and productive.

• We must all work together, as the writers of our Constitution worked together over 200 years ago. They ironed out their different views on how this new country should work, and we can do the same. This applies to all of us.

• To help facilitate this cooperativeness I would ask the Senate and House to eliminate the divisive aisles between the two parties and sit together. Figure out some way to be intermingled.

• I am also asking the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives to work with each other in carrying out their responsibilities.

• Now, the first time any of us don’t get our way, that is not the time to throw in the towel, it is the time to work harder and compromise.

• Our Constitution and Bill of Rights is what our country is founded upon.  That needs to be required reading for every senator and congressman. Mine is right here in my pocket and they should be in yours too. By the way, it is not in my pocket for show, I just finished reading it for the umpteenth time, and I pledge again to uphold them.

I pledge that:

• My cabinet will work with Congress and with the states in carrying out the responsibilities of the Federal and state governments.

• I want to see the states be successful in fulfilling their mission, education being a top priority.

• We need more interactive discussions and team work between the state and Federal governments. We are all on the same team, and teammates support teammates.

Agenda the next four years

• Immigration reform to meet the needs of America.

• Strengthen our military to keep it strong.

• Embrace a job creation environment for businesses

I want the world to know:

• We will always strive to be a good example to the world

• We are a leader for the free world

• We are a strong nation

• We are a determined nation to help nations to enjoy democracy, and the freedoms we enjoy.

• Our resolve is to help the nations of the world to gain their own self respect.

• What is the State of the Union? To be united in moving forward.
