Junior Jeff Melby hit a two-run homerun in the fifth inning to help break a 1-1 tie and pace Bellevue to a 6-1 victory against Interlake at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue on Wednesday, April 16.

Melby’s homer helped Colton Beilaski pick up the win for Bellevue (6-7, 5-5 KingCo 3A) with a gritty pitching performance. The senior pitched all seven innings, allowing only four hits while striking out 11.

Amir Zahed knocked in the only run for the Saints (3-11, 1-10) in the loss.

Newport 5, Liberty 0

Oregon State recruit Blake Gibbs knocked in two runs with a double in part of a four-run third inning for the Knights (9-5, 7-3), as they beat the Patriots at Liberty High School.

Will Pierce also knocked in two runs and Collin Bennett went 2 for 3 and scored two runs for Newport. Right-hander Nate Eisenhauer picked up the win.

Mercer Island 10, Sammamish 0

The Islanders pounded in 10 runs in the first three innings and blanked the Totems the rest of the way in a shortened five-inning contest at Sammamish High School.

Willy Reel picked up two RBIs for the Islanders (9-4, 6-3) and Joe Scalzo went 3 for 4 with a double and a triple. Chris Black picked up the win while Brandon Lawyer took the loss for Sammamish (1-11, 1-10).

Eastside Catholic 7, O’Dea 1

Cal Towey started the Crusaders off on the right foot, hitting a two-run homerun in the first inning on the way to a 7-1 Eastside Catholic win.

Towey finished with three RBIs for Eastside Catholic (13-1, 10-0 Metro League Mountain Division). Matt Boyd improved his record to 5-0 with the win on the mound.

Jake Collier threw a complete game four-hitter, as the Wolverines bested Sammamish 3-0 at Bellevue High School.

Jeff Melby hit a double and had four stolen bases for Bellevue. Sam Ellsworth took the loss for Sammamish, who was led at the plate by David Madson, who went 2 for 3 with a double.

Issaquah 10, Interlake 0

The Eagles led 1-0 after four innings before exploding for nine runs in the final two innings of a 10-0 win against Interlake. Kyle Sutherland went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Eagles, who were paced on the mound by Tyler Vanderboegh. Vanderboegh pitched a complete game four-hitter, striking out eight Saints in the win.

Bellevue Christian 5, Cedar Park Christian 1

Jeremy Bohnett drove in two runs and James King pitched a complete game three-hitter in a 5-1 Vikings win at Woodinville High School.

Kyle Taylor also knocked in a run for Bellevue Christian (7-3, 5-2 Emerald City League). Conner Williams took the loss for Cedar Park Christian (7-5, 2-2).
