Bellevue boys open season with win | Prep basketball roundup

Last year's class 3A runner-up opened 2011 with a win over Decatur at Bellevue College.

Bellevue (1-0, 0-0) withstood a 26 point effort from Decatur’s Dom Hunter to pick up a 75-65 win in the Washington Hoop Challenge at Bellevue College.

The Wolverines were led by the 17 points of Kyle Foreman and 15 each from Michael Carlson and Jack Walton. Timmy Haehl and Cole Walton both checked-in with 13 for Bellevue while Jeff Bartley added 14 more for the Gators.

Coach Chris O’Connor’s three-time defending 3A KingCo champs will take on West Seattle before opening league play at Juanita on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Rebels took down Battle Ground 42-41 at BC. Bothell, Skyline and Garfield earned wins.

Girls basketball

Bemi Carson led Forest Ridge (1-3, 1-1) with six points, but it wasn’t enough as Northwest School surged in the second half to get the 30-18 win.

Mariah Webb was the only player from either team in double figures, checking-in with 13 for Northwest to help her team to the win despite being shutout in the second period and trailing by one at the half.
