Coach John Hill and his Bellevue boys ran away from the field for a second straight year at the 3A KingCo track and field championships Wednesday at Friday at Redmond High School, pulling out the win by 86 points over second place finisher Juanita.
Isaiah Gilchrist, Budda Baker and Max Richmond came up just behind winner Alex Olobia in the 100 meters, with Baker winning the 200 and the freshman Gilchrist third, just behind senior teammate Myles Jack.
Interlake’s Evan Turman and Nick Roth were fifth and sixth in that event respectively, for the Saints.
Jack also won the 400, with Turman fourth.
Graham Wendle was fourth in the 800 for Bellevue and third in the 1600.
Interlake’s Sam Giner won the 1600 in four minutes, 24.89 seconds, with Kyle Pratt of Bellevue fourth. Pratt also finished second in the 3200 and Giner was fourth.
Sam Richmond was less than a tenth of a second from the title in the 110 hurdles, and won the 300 meter hurdles for Bellevue in 40.94, with freshman Justus Rogers third.
Reuben Mwehla, Baker, Jack and Richmond teamed up to win the 400 meter relay, just in front of the Interlake team of Pierce Frazier, Turman, Dexter Barcus-Glover and Roth.
Mitchell Stuart and Adrian Sparling continued Bellevue’s strong run in field events from recent years, as Stuart won the shot put at 52-07.75 and Sparling captured the discus title at 133-03.
Aaron Miller of Interlake was third in both events and his teammate Frazier captured the pole vault championship at 14-00.00 and was the only athlete to vault higher than 13-06.
Baker, Max Richmond and brother Sam finished first, third and fourth in the high jump, with Baker taking the title by nearly a foot at 22-02.25.
In 4A, Newport sophomore Chris Halamek was third in the discus at 142-04 and junior Sebastian Ramierez was third in the javelin with a throw of 160-06.
Sammamish junior Justin Tundrea won the 100 meters at the 2A sub-district meet and finished third in the 200. Josh Zimmerman was fourth in the 400 and Jackson Main was fourth in the 110 hudles and fifth in the 300 hurdles.
Neal Buckles, Tundrea, Nazariya and McCarthy finished second in the 400 meter relay
