Bellevue College names Shefts new head coach of women’s soccer

Alexander (Sasha) Shefts has been named as the head coach of the Bellevue College women’s soccer team after serving as an assistant for the men’s team for the past three seasons.

Shefts is currently an assistant coach for the Seattle Sounders women’s team and is also the director of coaching for Seattle’s largest youth club organization.

He has coached for over 25 years in club and has captured seven state titles with teams such as Emerald City FC, Crossfire and FC Alliance.

He was the head coach at Holy Names Academy from 2004 until 2007, and his team placed third in Class 3A in ’07.

He is a former assistant for the Seattle Sounders in the Professional Development League and a Region IV Olympic Developmental Program Scout.

He graduated from Seattle Pacific in 1984 and was a standout on SPU’s 1983 national championship squad.

Shefts replaces Frank Lee, who retired to spend more time with his family.
