Bellevue took down Bothell while Interlake beat Redmond and Bellevue Christian downed Vashon Island.

South Kitsap 33 Newport 27

The Knights tied the game at 27 late in the third on an Isaac Dotson six-yard touchdown run, but were unable to hold the Wolves out of the end zone in the final frame as South Kitsap escaped with the 33-27 non-league win.

A Bryce Broom 54-yard touchdown scamper was the difference, along with a South Kitsap defense that held Newport scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Eric Rodan led the ground attack for Newport with 141 yards on 11 carries while Conner Baumann added 92 more yards on 17 attempts. Dotson finished 6-18 in the passing game for 83 yards and an interception.

The loss drops the Knights to 0-2 with the KingCo opener against Woodinville September 14 at Pop Keeney Stadium.

Bellevue 35 Bothell 7

The Wolverines had little difficulty with 4A Bothell, dropping the Cougars 35-7 at Pop Keeney Stadium in the final tune-up before 3A KingCo play begins.

Bellevue opens the league schedule with a visit to Sammamish.

Coach Greg Schneider’s Vikings remained unbeaten in 2012 with the 28-20 win over Vashon Island to move their record to 2-0.

The Cardinals, which reached the 2A playoffs last season, handed Sammamish its second straight defeat 55-0 in Tacoma on Friday.

The road for the Totems will get no easier, with Bellevue coming for a visit to open the league schedule.

Interlake 29 Redmond 15

Interlake picked up its first win of the season to move to 1-1 with the 29-15 win over the still winless Mustangs.

The Saints will travel to Liberty to open 3A KingCo play September 14.
