The Bellevue Blast 99 fastpitch softball team faced a daunting challenge in the championship game at the Fife Bash tournament over the weekend before erasing a 10-run deficit to win the title.
After winning a pair of games in pool play and finishing 2-0-1, the Blast advanced to the bracket stage where they won their first game over a team from Seattle to advance to the championship.
A squad from Montesano led 11-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, leaving Bellevue only three outs to avoid the mercy rule by scoring a run before Gwen Rader knocked in a pair of runs in a three-run fourth that sparked the comeback.
While the pitching and defense held Montesano without a run for the game’s final three innings, the Blast offense lived up to its name by scoring two runs in the fifth and six more in the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up the win.
Taylor Woodey knocked in Taylor Ray for the game winning run in the championship game, while pitcher Erin Lingg won three games over the weekend in the pitcher’s circle with 15 strike outs.
