Bellevue welcomes Ferndale, Newport after top seed against Lake Stevens | Prep football news

The Wolverines and Knights face playoff games this week with spots in the state tournament on the line.

Bellevue (9-0) VS. Ferndale (7-2), 7 p.m. Friday

The road back to the Tacoma Dome and a seventh consecutive Class 3A state championship begins Friday for Bellevue, as Ferndale makes the trip to Wolverine Way for the district playoffs.

It has been a predictably repeatable pattern for coach Butch Goncharoff’s nationally-ranked squad throughout the season, decimating foes beginning with an opening week win over Skyline at Husky Stadium and finishing the KingCo slate last week with a 49-7 trouncing of playoff-bound Mercer Island.

None of Bellevue’s first nine opponents have kept the game within three touchdowns.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker and his Ferndale squad gave the Wolverines all they could handle in 2004, as the Wolverines wrapped up the first of their four-peats in Class 3A, escaping with a 31-28 win in the Tacoma Dome.

Montlake Jake won’t be around to help this group of Golden Eagles, which enter Friday’s 3A district playoff showdown off a 38-0 win over Anacortes.

The winner takes the number two seed from District 2 to the 3A state tournament next week.

Newport (7-2) @ Lake Stevens (6-3), 7 p.m. Saturday

Coach Mike Miller’s Knights took care of Woodinville for a second time this season last week, winning a 49-24 game in the 4A KingCo crossover round to punch a ticket to this week’s district playoffs.

Lake Stevens, winners of four consecutive and the 4A Wesco champions by virtue of last week’s 53-49 comeback over Edmonds-Woodway, will be waiting and bring in an offense that has scored fewer than 48 points only once during the past four weeks.

The winner earns the top seed from District 1 to the 4A state tournament next week and will host its game.

Sammamish (1-8) VS. Anacortes (5-4), 7 p.m. Friday

The Totems hope to rebound off last week’s shutout loss to Lake Washington with a 2A district playoff berth on the line and face Anacortes this week in a consolation game.

The Seahawks were dropped 38-0 by Ferndale last week, but had won two of three before that setback.

Interlake (0-9) @ Ingraham (2-7), 7 p.m. Friday

The Saints face Metro League foe Ingraham in a consolation game after being shutout 52-0 by Juanita last week to close the KingCo schedule.

The Rams own wins over West Seattle and Foster, which they beat 22-20 last week.
