The Bellevue Wolverine softball team might have just had their best offensive performance in school history.
The Wolverines beat the Auburn Trojans 37-23 in six innings of play. The score is significant, but the box score is where everyone’s eyes should go.
Let’s start with the positives on offense.
Bellevue’s offense was on fire — every player who got an at-bat recorded two or more hits and at least one RBI.
Ava Teets out-hit her University of Washington commit Alexis DeBoer in impressive fashion, even though DeBoer didn’t record an out on offense. Teets went 5 for 7 — she hit three doubles, two home runs, scored six times and drove in 10 runs for the Wolverines.
Bellevue was actually down in this game after the first inning. After DeBoer hit her first home run of the game, Bellevue scored a quick four runs in the first inning. Auburn responded with 11 runs in their half of the opening frame.
But that Trojan lead didn’t last long. Bellevue put up 15 runs in the second inning, which really began the separation, and the race to 30 runs was on.
Bellevue put up another inning of 10 or more runs in the fifth with 11 runs coming across to score in the fifth inning that put the mercy rule within reach.
Auburn was able to score 23 runs, which is the most runs they have scored since beating Federal Way 25-12 last March. A big reason for that was the walks issued by Bellevue pitchers.
There were 23 free passes given to Auburn hitters in the game. Two Auburn players walked four times; another pair walked three times.
It was just Bellevue’s second win of the year after their previous win over Lynnwood, in which the Wolverines scored 17 runs in their win.
Bellevue is back in action on March 22 when they take on Lincoln (Seattle) at home.
