Teammates Joel Ambo and Michael Williams finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth, and the Wolverines finished third in Class 3A at the WIAA State Cross Country Meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco on Nov. 7.
Ambo (15:40) and Williams (15:40) were the the only top-10 area finishers in the meet, but many local athletes posted impressive times to help their squads.
The Interlake boys team finished in 8th place in the Class 2A meet, led by the 23rd-place finish of junior Max Crowell in 16:39. Ashish Suntosh was the next-highest finisher for the Saints, taking 50th in 17:11. The Interlake girls team finished 10th and were led by Summer Hanson (42nd, 20:32) and Brooke Neimann (48th, 20:45).
The Bellevue Christian girls team, led by Bree Oldham (19th, 20:57) and Noelle Crosby (31st, 21:28) finished 11th in the Class 1A event.
Melanie Luis (51st, 20:23) and Casey Warendorf (60th, 20:31) helped the Bellevue girls team finish 10th.
Two individual runners qualified for the event from Newport. Michael Hutchins finished in 88th place in the Class 4A boys meet, while while Knights freshman Jessica Spray finished 60th in the Class 4A girls meet.
