Bellevue made it back to the state tournament for the first time in five years this season behind second-year head coach Leah Krautter and a strong contingent of freshmen, and on Monday, one of them garnered yet another honor.
Shelby Cansler was named to the Associated Press All-State Second Team for Class 3A. She was the only KingCo player represented on the 3A team and the only freshman on any of the 12 first and second teams from Class 4A to 1B.
Cansler was one of a handful of Bellevue youngsters that helped the Wolverines to a second-straight conference tournament title and 13-1 record in the league. Bellevue finished the year 25-4, knocked out defending state champion Prairie in the regional round and dispatched Glacier Peak to make it to the 3A semi-finals before falling to eventual state champion Cleveland and Player of the Year Makala Roper.
Cansler averaged more than 16 points per game to lead Bellevue’s offensive attack this year, and added nearly five steals and six rebounds per contest.
