Some football players are locked into a specific position for the duration of their football careers. This couldn’t be further from the truth for Newport Knights senior Mannie Davis.
Davis, who has played three different positions during the 2014 season, thrives on helping his team in a myriad of ways.
“I play all over field. I started off the season at corner, switched to defensive end and then ended up at strong safety. I’m an athlete and just play wherever my team needs me. I’m going to do my job and try to execute the best I can. I want to be able to help the team out in any way shape or form,” Davis said.
The Knights will face the Bothell Cougars in the Class 4A semifinals at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 29 at the Tacoma Dome. Bothell (12-0) defeated Newport 47-13 in the third week of the season. The Knights (10-2) have rattled off nine consecutive wins since losing to the Cougars in September.
“To be able to have the chance to play them again is a great opportunity. They (Bothell) are going to be a tough challenge but it’s not going to be the same game that it was in week three. It’s going to be a different game,” Davis said. “Whoever wants it more is going to come out with the victory. It’s just going to come down to the grind. It’s going to come down to who wants it more and who really is going to fight for it.”
Recently the Bellevue Reporter had an opportunity to ask Davis a few questions about his life away from the football field.
