Former Bellevue High football star Jamal Atofau was one of two Washington State University football players arrested early Sunday morning after police found 38 marijuana plants growing in the house the players rented with two others.

Atofau, a redshirt freshman linebacker, and Andre Barrington, a redshirt freshman from Federal Way were arrested along with their two roommates and later released on their own recognizance, according to a report from Vince Grippi of the Spokesman-Review.

Police came to the home to serve an unrelated search warrant when they discovered the marijuana plants growing in a basement room. A drug-related warrant was obtained and the police searched the room and found plants, manufacturing equipment and paraphernalia.

The four are charged with a violated of the uniform controlled substance act. The severity of the charges depends on the weight of the marijuana seized, which had not been determined yet.

Atofau has played in five games for the Cougars and has eight tackles this season. He also plays special teams. He has been suspended from team activities, Grippi reported.

Barrington is ineligible this season and has not practiced with the team.
