Hanson wins 800, leads Saints girls to eighth-place team finish | 2A, 3A Track and Field

Interlake junior Summer Hanson shaved over three seconds off her preliminary time in the 800-meter run finals, racing past the field in 2:15.32 to finish in first place. Hanson also notched a fourth place finish for the Saints in the 400-meter dash.

The other top finisher for Interlake was freshman Nikita Waghani, who ended the day with a third place finish in the 3,200-meters.

The Saints were also represented in Tacoma by Nadia Lucas, who ran in the 1,600-meter run, Montana Malarkey-Kessle who ran in the 300-meter hurdles, Anna Sugiyama who competed in the high jump, Savanna Stern who was in the pole vault competition and Brenda Agus, who pulled double-duty in field events javelin and discus.

None of the three Interlake relays made the finals on the girls side, but the points earned by Hanson and Waghani helped the team to an eighth-place finish.

Bellevue boys finish 11th at state

The Wolverines received points from their consistent producers in the javelin and distance events and were bouyed by the performance of Blake Erickson’s eighth place finish in the pole vault, all leading to 23 team points an an 11th place finish at Mount Tahoma High School.

Addison Woolsey significantly cut down from his preliminary time to finish second in the 800-meter run for the Wolverines in 3A. The junior is in only his second full season of track and field according to coach John Hill and also ran in the 1,600-meter run at state for Bellevue.

The Wolverines’ 1,600-meter relay team took the final qualifying spot to the finals, where they finished eighth.

Blake Erickson scored points for Bellevue in the pole vault with an eighth place finish and Michael Kneip finished in ninth place in the shot put and in 15th in the discus throw.

Tanner Lien ended the day in second place in the javelin throw and teammate Matt Gilbert finished in fourth. Kyle Kennedy of Bremerton won the title from the defending champion Lien with a best throw of 186-04 in the finals.

In 3A competition, Bellevue’s Floriane Kameni missed out on the finals in the 100-meters and finished sixth in the long jump.
