Interlake graduate and baseball player Nate Wehner accomplished a rare feat on the diamond recently, tossing a perfect game for the American Legion squad Bellevue Phiten against a team from Canada.

Wehner, who was named 2014 athlete of the year for the Saints, did not allow a single baserunner to North Delta in a seven inning effort, as his team won 5-0 in the consolation bracket of the John Nero Invitational in Hillsboro, Ore.

He completed the flawless effort on 91 pitches, striking out nine and going to a three-ball count only twice, including the last batter of the game.

During the high school season, Wehner posted a 1.42 earned run average, appearing in 10 games including nine starts. He struck out 32 batters against only 15 walks, and finished his prep career with 10 wins after posting a 3-3 mark in 2014.

Wehner, also an AP Scholar at Interlake, is planning to attend Division III California Lutheran University where he will also play for the baseball team.

Bellevue Phiten’s Senior Legion (19 and under) baseball club is managed by Rich Scrivner and includes players from Bellevue and Interlake, as well as other schools.

With some of its senior roster in California playing in another tournament, Phiten called up some of its Junior Legion roster. The team that played in the Hillsboro tournament is included here: Dominic Peretti, Cal Neely, Trevor Neely, Nate Wehner, Kevin Ganley, Reid Hartmann, Christian McDonald, Brady Carlson, Andrew Yuen, Matt Haller, IB Mardini, Alex Greenbaum, Jorn Peterson, Nick Kafer, Alex Barajas, AJ Lackey, Jordan Flournoy, Walker Nelson and Easton Hazim.
