Interlake’s Carly Pim and Madelyn Shelby, an incoming freshman at Newport, are headed to Sioux Falls, SD, for the American Softball Association National Championship Tournament after their Washington Blaze 97 team won a pair of state titles with a combined record of 10-0.
The Blaze 97 squad, which competes in the 14U division, outscored opponents 61-4 en route to a perfect record at the National Softball Association state title and followed that with another 5-0 mark at the ASA championship.
Nearly 200 teams from around the country will compete for a national title, but it won’t be the first time Pim and Shelby find themselves on the main stage after both were part of the Bellevue-Mercer Island team that earned the host berth from District 9 to last year’s Junior Softball World Series in Kirkland. That team finished eighth among the top teams Little League softball teams from around the world and lost its final game to the eventual champ.
