Baseball

Newport 1, Issaquah 0: The fourth ranked Newport Knights opened the 4A KingCo season on Tuesday with a 1-0 win over fellow league-heavyweight Issaquah. Cole Wiper got the start for the Knights and tossed five innings of shutout, two-hit baseball and struck out eight of the 18 batters he faced before giving way to Jared Fisher in the sixth with the score still 0-0. The game was still scoreless in the bottom of the seventh when senior catcher Daniel Altchech knocked in the winning run to give his team a 1-0 victory and make a winner out of Fisher for the second time this season. Outfielder Nate Anderson was 2-4 on the day at the plate. The Eagles managed to scratch out only three hits against Wiper and Fisher on the day.

Interlake 14, Renton 2: Austin Strothers picked up the win for the Saints by going six innings and giving up only two runs on six hits while striking out seven. Carl Snaring went 2-4 at the plate, including a triple and had 4 RBI for Interlake.
