Lake to Lake walk, bike ride coming soon | Community recreation news

The popular Lake to Lake walk is back for 2012 and this year will be followed by a bike event.

The Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center and the city of Bellevue are partnering once again to bring back the Lake to Lake Walk and this year have added the inaugural Lake to Lake Bike Ride, which will include a pair of routes with one for beginners and another for more avid bike riders.

The walk is free of charge and registration will take place on the morning of the event, from 8-10 a.m. at Mercer Slough Blueberry Farm (2380 Bellevue Way S.E.).

A 9.3 mile route that includes open space, forests, wetlands, gardens and historic buildings will greet the walkers, and is expected to take around an hour to complete.

Children and strollers are not recommended. Parking is available along the west side of the nature park and will have a Volkssport sign. A shuttle will run every 30 minutes to the Weowna Park’s lower trailhead, where the walk will begin.

The bike event is 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 and will begin and end at Lake Hills Community Park (1200 164th Ave. SE) with a pair of routes.

The first is an 8-mile greenbelt loop that is mostly flat and winds through Robinswood Park, Weowna Park and the Lake Hills Greenbelt trail. A much longer, more challenging 20 mile route through Kelsey Creek and Wilburton Hills Park will also be available.

Cost of the bike ride is $15 for adults, $10 for ages 17 and under and $30 for a family of up to three. All proceeds will benefit the city of Bellevue Youth Camp Scholarship Fund.

Gifts from local sponsors, a commemorative event hat and raffle prizes and giveaways will also be part of the event.

Pre-registration at www.myparksandrecreation.com is encouraged for the bike ride, as only a limited number of spaces are available. Use activity code 67033 to register. For more information, call 425-452-4882 or email bikeride@bellevuewa.gov.
